If you're about to sell your real estate in Wollongong this autumn or winter, then it's important to remember a few housekeeping issues that many people neglect!

This is especially important if your house happens to get snapped up quickly by a buyer who will take possession in the middle of the colder season, so it's a good idea to get your home ready for the move in.

Gutters

We are already beginning to see the trees start to shed their leaves – a true sign of autumn. If your home has a large amount of trees surrounding it, then you may wish to climb onto the roof and clear the gutters.

This should be an action that is performed regularly (once or twice a year) – but many people fail to do so. While you're cleaning them out, it also gives you a chance to check if there are any breakages or leaks.

Doors and windows

Check all of the doors and windows in the property to ensure that there are no cracks in seals, and that all hinges and locks are working.

It can be a frustrating thing moving into a new home and finding that the doors and windows keep blowing open due to improper maintenance.

Placing weather stripping on doors and windows will also help to keep out cold air during the colder seasons.

Heating

If your property has a fireplace or installed heating duct system then you should check to see if it's clear.

It may also be a good idea to place a cap on the top of the chimney so that birds and rodents are not able to enter it.

Bugs and pests

Spray the outside of your property with long-lasting repellent in order to keep bugs at bay. This will also help to stop spiders making nests in door jambs and underneath overhangs near doors and windows.

Don't forget to seal up any small holes underneath and all around your property to ensure that rodents and other pests stay out of the house!
