A new plan titled 'Shaping Wollongong' from the Property Council of Australia has begun, which will help to revitalise the city socially and economically.

Shaping Wollongong will help to define a number of strategies to improve entrepreneurship, investment and confidence in the area.

Heading the project is Melbourne-based creative agency Hello City, which creates innovative ways to add value and breathe life into city projects.

Hello City has also asked for Wollongong residents, businesses and developers to come up with their own creative, artistic or business-oriented ideas on how to better the city, and submit them at the 'Ideas-a-thon' event held on May 10.

These submitted ideas will be reviewed in a workshop, with the best ones moving into an 'Ideas Lab' for potential use in later development.

This is good news for the town, as it may help to create a thriving city and add value to the quality of living in the area.

It may also attract more people to the area looking to purchase real estate in Wollongong, or people looking for Wollongong house rentals.

Shaping Wollongong will not only attract increased investment from home buyers, but businesses too as the plan will provide strategies on how to attract companies to the region.

This new project comes as another step to revitalise the city, after Wollongong City Council announced its plans earlier this year to refurbish certain inner-city areas.

Construction has already begun on the Crown Street Mall refurbishment project, which aims to convert the area into a modern and vibrant place for residents and businesses to enjoy. The $19.4 million project has been part funded with $5 million from the Australian Government's Regional Development Australia Fund.
