The Land Development Agency is now seeking public consultation on the development of Parkes Section 3, kicking off the first stage of the ACT Government’s City to the Lake project.

Development of the site, situated adjacent the Civic Pool and opposite Reid CIT on Constitution Avenue, will be divided into north and south sections and feature “distinctive urban design and public realm, incorporating pedestrian paths and walkways with activated plazas, open space and streetscapes.” Some 200 – 300 apartments (height limited to 25 metres) will be the main component of the first land release, expected in 2015-16. Some commercial and retail opportunities will also be available across the entire precinct, with the site’s proximity to Commonwealth Park making it a new high profile location as an integral part of the City to the Lake plan.

The preparations for the land to be released to the market follow on from last week’s auction of development sites at Campbell 5 (read our blog post here) which totalled $63.75 million. Given the recent flurry of development activity, the results of next week’s auction of Blocks 3 & 4 Section 66 at Kingston will be hotly anticipated.

Public comment is invited until 7 August, with a number of information sessions being held. Details are available at the Land Development Agency website.
