It appears that 2013 will continue the merger and consolidation of real estate agencies across the country, with MMJ Real Estate having announced that it has added a Western Australian office to its burgeoning platform. The trio of Directors behind the business are experienced professionals in Western Australian’s property sector.
MMJ Real Estate (WA) was launched by Brad Carey, Dennis Volk and David Wall, who have accumulated over 60 years’ combined experience in Australia’s real estate industry.
Previously operating as DTZ’s Perth office, the new company is the Western Australian office of national real estate business MMJ Real Estate, which boasts over 50 years of operation. The Directors of MMJ WA are well known to MMJ Real Estate’s current CEO – Chris Johnson, with Johnson having headed up DTZ’s Australian and New Zealand operations from early 2004 until his departure in late 2009.
Brad Carey, Director of MMJ Real Estate (WA), explains the decision to establish the Perth-based office was taken to provide clients with a personal, high quality and comprehensive property service with connections Australia-wide and also globally.
“We’ve identified significant growth potential in the Western Australian property market and have made the decision to join forces with MMJ Real Estate, which will better meet the business needs inherent in the local market,” he said.
“We are strongly focused on offering the best suite of property and real estate services available locally, in addition to meeting and exceeding the expectations of our clients with whom we have very solid relationships.

The MMJ Perth office will continue to offer the Western Australian market the core services of residential land estate sales, commercial sales, leasing, property management and valuation together with its dominant commercial strata management capability, which now boasts some 45 per cent of the Perth CBD commercial strata market.
Chris Johnson, MMJ Real Estate Chief Executive Officer, says the establishment of the Western Australian office is aligned with the company’s broader objective of expanding its service offering nationally to meet client requirements. Since arriving at MMJ in early 2010, Johnson has overseen the establishment of a Sydney CBD office in June 2010, led jointly by himself and long time senior leasing executive – Cameron Algie, the re-branding of the ex-Savills Canberra office in August 2012, run by Gavin Obst and Nick George, both highly regarded senior property figures in the ACT marketplace and now the addition of the West Australian business.
Johnson went onto say that during this time, MMJ has also added further strength and depth to its Illawarra network of offices, including the opening of an office in Shellharbour City, bringing the total number of Illawarra offices to five. “We’re extremely excited by the addition of the Perth office to the MMJ Group, which is continuing to provide valuable real estate solutions to clients throughout Australia,” Mr Johnson said.

“Following the establishment and integration of the Perth-based office, the next major city location to be added to the MMJ group will be in Brisbane, where plans for this office are in advanced stages and it is likely to be open for business toward the end of this quarter. Other major CBD target locations include Melbourne and Adelaide,” Johnson concluded.
